Daring to Lead® in Wales – Launch Event

Tuesday April 9th 17:00 – 19:00 (arrival from 17:00)
Business School, Coleg Cambria, Holywell Road, Northop, Mold, CH7 6AA
Cost: There is no cost to attend

The 2019 Leading Wales Awards® will seek nominations of individuals in Wales (in all sectors and at all levels of responsibility) whose leadership is courageous, inspirational and transformational. This event marks our launch as we open nominations.

This CPD leadership conversation will explore just what is courageous, inspirational and transformational leadership. What does it look like in practice? Is this the kind of leadership that will help us build a bright future and contribute to building the Wales We Want? What do you think?

Our conversation will start with an inspiring key note speech by Gemma Morgan. Gemma will share her story of operating deep inside Kosovo prior to the NATO campaign where her leadership was tested amidst the harsh realities of human conflict. She shares her story to expose what she believes are the fundamental truths about leadership; to highlight what the leadership text books don’t tell us.

Following this, a table top discussion will be facilitated exploring leadership, about courage and strength, trusted relationships that inspire and influence, leading to real change.

Finally, David Jones OBE, CEO of Coleg Cambria and himself a winner of a Leading Wales Award in 2008 will formally launch the 2019 Leading Wales Awards.

The event will be chaired by Barbara Chidgey, Executive Chair of the Leading Wales Awards and a leadership coach / facilitator.

Gemma Morgan:

Trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Gemma was the first woman to be awarded the Carmen Sword for outstanding performance as a young officer. She is a former international athlete, captaining Wales in lacrosse and competing across three World Cups. She was awarded “Most Valuable Player in Europe” in the 1997 Championships.

As a keynote speaker and performance coach, Gemma has 20 years of international experience in leadership and team performance, across the military, business and elite sport sectors. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management. Her work includes board level strategy facilitation, executive coaching with global brands and elite sports team development.

Gemma is an ambassador for the charity “Help the Heroes”, supporting wounded, injured and sick British Armed Forces Veterans. She was proud to be part of “Gareth Malone and the Invictus Games Choir” and recently collaborated with HRH Prince Harry and Warner Brothers in the promotion of “Dunkirk” the movie. She has suffered post-traumatic stress as a result of her military service and hence campaigns to promote better mental health awareness in organisations today.

“Gemma inspires, drawing the audience in with powerful vulnerability. She challenges what it means to be a strong leader and has taught me a great deal about finding resilience, even in the toughest of times.” Gareth Malone OBE, TV presenter and musician
